Look!!!!

"If you've been told all your life that you're good-looking, people just flock around you and you never really have to try or have to learn an interesting craft, skill or hobby - or even have depth."
- Brittany Daniel

I must be the worst blogger ever as theres no consistency in my posts. I did begin to write a few topics but I don’t feel that they are ready to publish just yet. I came across the website Looklet and I’m pretty hooked on it. The website allows you to create looks, from the clothes to the model to the backdrop. It’s perfect for anyone who is feeling inspired to put a stylish look together.

Firstly I am no way a fashion expert/guru. The application on Looklet is a great way to learn. I am probably the worst at shopping and trying to piece an outfit together for myself but this application gives the opportunity to try different things and even be daring, which some people may find difficult to try on themselves.

Here is the first look I created. I would totally wear this if the top underneath was a fitted long sleeve and the scarf wrapped around the neck was worn as a hijab (headscarf). It’s a pretty sweet Autumn/Fall day time look which can easily be worn as an evening look with an accent belt, clutch and bracelets. Though I love my Nikon DSLR, the Canon will do on this occasion for picture purposes: p

The next look is something a Muslim chick could not wear outside, unless you live somewhere where the whole town are mahram to you. It could happen. I would wear this maybe if I was hosting a girls night or something. This outfit has all the elements to the perfect look for my personality I think.

I am not a fan of animal print but I think it works here as the skirt and heels are toned down. They show the soft and girly side of my personality and the animal print kinda represents my feisty side I guess. The outfit would not be complete without the watch and Ray Bans. It balances everything out so the Look isn’t completely girly/sexy and gives an edge to it. And that’s me, how I like to see myself anyway. (And yes that's a Hello Kitty tattoo on the leg, anybody who knows me knows i love Hello Kitty! Yes, I know tattoos are haram, lets just say this is a temporary stick on one ;)

Hope yall liked it, leave comments below.

"When A Person Commits No Crime, He Always Wins!"

.... Quoted by Brother Harris, the son of Munir Farooqi.

In my last post I touched upon the ordeal the Farooqi family have been going through. Within a couple of weeks the Save the Family Home managed to get over 10,000 signatures on the petitions Allahu Akbar (God is Indeed the Greatest)
I would like to thank those of you who signed the petition and God Willing it will pay off. Here is a video from today's protest.

Where is the Love?

A few weeks ago I joined two of my fellow photography enthusiasts on a street photography venture. I did plan to blog about it and upload some of the pictures once I completed to edit the photos. I tend to use Adobe Lightroom for editing my photos but I liked the collage feature on Google Picasa which I still haven’t got hang of yet.  I will blog about our endeavor but I had to blog about an issue which has been on my mind.

Where is the Justice?

This month is drawing to a close and it has been filled with numerous messages and emails to sign petitions for two causes; The Free BabarAhmed Campaign and the Save the family Campaign. The Save the Family Campaign has really been on my mind. It felt more real to me in the sense that I know these people affected by this injustice.

Munir Farooq is an elderly man well known in the Manchester Muslims Community, who was recently convicted on grounds of terrorism. He used to work at his book stall in Longsight market. I know him and his family and mashaAllah they have great character. I have come across some radical individuals and there’s certain qualities they possess and I can tell you that Uncle Munir and his family are far from that.

One time I was in Longsight Market  where he worked and there was a Christian lady who was shouting at him in an intimidating manner saying “You are wrong, You’re a Fool, Jesus Is God” and the likes of such. Munir Farroqis responded by staying calm, smiling politely and being very patient whilst the lady cursed and carried on humiliating Munir. And what for? Because she passed by and saw that the Islamic books consisted of Book of Tawheed (Oness of Allah), the life of the Prophet Muhammed (Peace Be Upon Him) and staying away from sin such as gambling, drinking alcohol etc. We actually wanted to go back and tell the lady to back off because her behavior towards Munir was unnecessary and he didn’t deserve that. Would any of us want that for our own Father, Grandfather or Uncle?

The allegations in court seem totally false to me. Reports state that undercover police visited the stall and Munir told them about jihad training in Pakistan. Let say for arguments sake he was a terrorist, wouldn’t you think that if approached by someone interested in Islam you would tell them about islam first, such as belief in God etc. I mean why would you tell someone about Jihad training straight away. Anybody would be scared off by that. I know I would. It sounds really unrealistic to and I know Munir as he has been doing the stall for many years and know that is not his agenda.

And if you feel that isn’t injustice, hold on to your horsey because now the family are also being punished! They are being thrown out of their home! I went to their home earlier this year on a makeup assignment (I freelance as a makeup artist) and Wallah no exaggeration I have never met a family so impeccable, mashaAllah.  Whilst I was there I saw the 7 year old daughter of Munir Farooqi who was having Hifdh (memorization of Quran) lesson via Skype.  MashaAllah she has almost memories the whole quran with tajweed!  A friendly sweet girl who has so much love for her learning mashaAllah.

A muslim woman with her child waiting for her husband
Munirs Wife, whom I called Aunty out of respect, was very welcoming. When I was getting the daughter in law ready (they were getting ready for a wedding) she insisted I take a break and eat. I said I would rather complete my work although I was famished. She started to feed me with her own hands. Now at first she caught me off guard but I was truly moved by this woman’s high spirit and warmth. In fact the whole family were like this, despite the hardship they have been going through with the father detained waiting for trial.

It was Auntie’s turn to get ready and she was quite a funny lady, down to earth and pretty cool mashaAllah. Then Uncle Munir called from prison. Speaking to his daughter-in-law  they asked how each other were and she told him that she was wearing her walima clothes that he gifted her and joked how she looked like a fish (as it was a fishtail lengha) I found there relationship so sweet. Something you don’t really see between Father In Law and Daughter In Law in the Asian culture MashaAllah. And the fact that they were not miserable and talking as though they would do so on a daily basis made me think that this is indeed a patient family.

The daughter-in-law dropped me off to the station and on my home I was just thinking about this beautiful family mashaAllah. Every Muslim family should have that type of relationship, character and Islamic values.

Of course this is all a test from Allah. The more pious you are, the greater the tests, because Allah wants to raise them in ranks so they are amongst the best in the Akhirah. SubhanAllah. I know some of you dont know of Uncle Munir, his son Harris, his daughter Zulekha and his daughter in law Juvaria. But they are our fellow muslims and would we want this injustice to happen to our own families?

I only hope my family has as much ihsan as their family by spreading awareness and helping them. Please sign the petition it only takes a few minutes. Anyone can sign it so long as they are a British citizen and have an email address, even a baby! Do remember them and me in your prayers.

One more image to share from our street photography for now!

Let Them Eat Cake!

Hi, Peace and Blessings to You All!

This is my first blog entry and I would like to dedicate it to a friend of mine, Hafsah who has inspired me through her creativity to embark upon a new journey of my own. I always enjoyed expressing myself through writing and though I am not the best of writers I hope to share my life with you all through my ever so mediocre talent of photography and writing.

I turned 22 today, well technically yesterday as its past 12 o'clock now (editing this page has taken me a few hours) Many of my friends asked how I celebrated the day? It can be quite a shock to many people and although the birthday wishes were very sweet from my friends, (thank you all) I don't really make a big deal about my birthday. It was just another day for me. If anything it was time for me to reflect on the previous year and what I did when I was 21. That sounds so weird, I miss being 21 already :( It has definitely been an interesting and eventful year, one of the best, Alhamdulillah. I just wish I started this blog earlier. I finally bought myself a Nikon DSLR last month (I named him Jacob =p) and thought this was the best time for me to start documenting my life because if nobody else reads this, it will always be something special to me Insha’Allah.

Oh and I spent the day with my brother, sister in law and beautiful niece Masha’Allah. Not a slice of cake in sight! ;)

Also, Hafsah dedicated a Polyvore collage to me today and I absolutely loved it. The title of this caption is "Beauty behind the Brush". After reading this I did think of naming my blog "Beauty behind the Lens" but I think that would be more suited for my girl Hafsah, for she truly is beautiful Masha’Allah Tabarak’Allah. Love You Habibati x

I hope to benefit others and more than anything, myself through this journey. I leave you with a quote;

"I believe that life is a journey, often difficult and sometimes incredibly cruel, but we are well equipped for it if only we tap into our talents and gifts and allow them to blossom."- Les Brown

Peace & Love,
